winterlude, celebrating chinese new year

We skated downtown to Confederation Park this morning, primarily to join in and see some of the Winterlude festivities that started just yesterday. From our house the length of the Rideau Canal to the city center is just over 4kms. The weather was absolutely amazing. At about the 2km mark I even had to take my coat and gloves off, because I was so hot.

There's a huge program of places to go and things to see and do during the Winterlude Festival. This weekend we decided to check out the Chinese New Year celebrations, including dance performances, a traditional tea ceremony in an Asian yurt, original sounds created with Asian gongs and crystal bowls, a garden of lanterns, ice sculptures and a whole lot more!

Lilah calls Saturday and Sunday "Family Day". And what a fabulous family day we had together!

  1. What a wonderful "Family Day" activity! It looks like you all had a great time together.

  2. It's great to see the way you live over there...the weather does not stop you, its part of your life it seems...and thats wonderful. Can you imagine us trying to do those events with the cold/snow etc?????
Great pics.. ..what wonderful childhood memories your wee Lilah is going to have..

  3. What wonderful pictures! Makes me homesick for Ottawa, snow , ice and all. As I look out the window in downtown Luanda Angola.

  4. Your "family day" looked awesome! How fun. And I loved that we had sun!

  5. That celebration looks so wonderful, even *I* would have braved the cold to see it.

  6. Looks like a great way to celebrate and spend family time together! I am impressed that you even gave the camera to Colin for a photo!

  7. Beautiful! Looks like a fun time:)

  8. Your photos of the festival are outstanding! I bet you could sell them to newspapers and make a nice little sum!

Whenever I see your photos of your family enjoying Ottawa, I think you guys must live in one of the best cities in the world. I especially love all of your winter photos. I soooo want to visit Ottawa someday.

  9. Looks like your family had a great Chinese New Year Celebration! We hope to do all of the activities next year with Keaton and Kanah together as brothers. Thanks for following along on our blog! We are very glad to know the children are cared for well at Yangdong. Thanks for that update. We have not been able to get any as of yet! It is comforting to hear from someone who knows. Your daughter is beautiful!

  10. Hi Jill, Thanks for both of your messages. I hope to have time to catch up on you and your sweet family!
