thanksgiving weekend

wakefield, quebec

It's Thanksgiving around these parts. And we enjoyed a lovely family day today.

I packed a picnic and we drove up to Wakefield, about a 20 minute drive from Ottawa. It was a beautiful day and the Fall colours are simply fabulous at the moment.

Wakefield is what we consider to be one of our little tranquil get-out-of-the-city places. Pre-Lilah we used to drive up here on a Friday evening after work, get something to eat in one of the yummy everything-is-homemade restaurants and just relax. This little town is pretty much taken over with visitors and tourists at this time of the year - the area is well known for the beautiful Fall foliage. There is also a Steam Train tourist attraction that runs from the Ottawa area up to Wakefield once a day. In fact, that's how we first discovered Wakefield, we took the Steam Train trip about 7 or 8 years ago. And as the saying goes, the rest is history!

Anyway, today we walked to the covered bridge just outside this little village and when we got back into town from our walk, the steam train was almost due to arrive. We sat and eat our picnic and waited for it. Lilah was pretty sure we were going to take the train back to Ottawa! And she was rather confused at the train not being blue, like Thomas of course!

  1. I LOVE covered bridges... when we lived in the USA we searched some of the back roads for these old bridges just so we could see them. This one is beautiful. Love the railroad pictures too!

  3. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. You really do take the most beautiful photos. I'm partial to the one of Lilah and her Daddy walking on the railroad tracks. I got a similar one recently of Kerry and her Daddy.

  4. It sounds like you had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend! However it must be difficult to be so far from you parents! We will be driving out to Ontario this summer, as Howard grew up near Sudbury and I am going to take note of some of the places you have posted as we are going to tour some of southern Ontario as well :0)
