today is called 'equal day'...

Today, Lilah Grace Xiao Tong, you're ours as long as you weren't and you've lived with us for as long as you haven't. You lived in the Yangdong SWI for 562 days, and now you've lived with us for the same length of time - 562 days. That's why we call it 'Equal Day'. You may only be part of our family for 562 days, but we cannot imagine our lives without you. In fact, we can't even imagine a minute of our lives without you. You are loved and adored sweet girl and nothing could equal the love we have for you. Your Baba and I count our blessings every single day.

We walked up to Starbucks today and you had a yummy cupcake to celebrate this special day. I think you probably wish there was something to celebrate every day, knowing how much you love cupcakes!

  1. Hi Jill!!!

I've been meaning to write you forever...but still feel like I'm trying to figure out how to balance everything. sigh.

I LOVE how similar our stories are. I knew that you met Lilah around the same age that we met Millie, but I just did that calculator thingy and Mills was in China for 562 days too! And...today marks 6 months together.

Lilah is absolute perfection and I hope to meet her (and you and Colin!) someday. She is gorgeous and beautiful and I'm so thankful that you guys have each other. :)

  2. Aww Traci, I know what you mean. It took me a while to balance everything too, and sometimes I wonder have I yet?! Heh! And I can only imagine how hard it is with Herman gone sometimes too.

I got goosebumps when I read that Millie was in China for 562 days too - same as Lilah. Wow. Our stories are so similiar. I look at Millie in pictures and remember Lilah at that size and that stage. It is amazing - Millie is gorgeous, absolutely beautiful and she fits into your beautiful family so perfectly. I LOVE reading all about her. In fact, your blog isn't good for me, well it depends on how you see it, but it makes me want to go back to China so badly!

Adore you guys. You're such a sweet sweet family. Happy 6 months together! Gosh is it that long already?! It just feels like you were in China last week.

    Hugs, Jill.

  3. I have never heard of equal day... did you invent that?! What a great idea for a little celebration. I love how she eats the icing off the cupcake first!

  10. Happy Belated Equal Day! That was a big milestone for our family, too. Somehow, it made her seem more ours. I know that sounds weird, but she felt more "us".

I just love, love, love your blog, and all your adorable photos of Lilah. Thanks for sharing!

  11. Would you consider expanding on this and submitting it to www.wearegraftedin.com? I think other families would really enjoy hearing more about your thoughts on this "holiday"! So precious!
