After picking Lilah up from school today, we headed to the annual biology butterfly show that is held just down the street from us, at Carleton University. We went to the exhibit last year for the first time, so I searched online to find the dates of when it was coming this year, just so I could slot it into my calendar and make sure we didn't miss it!
We absolutely didn't miss it! In fact, it has become a fun yearly tradition for us.
Miss Lilah really enjoys getting to see all the beautiful butterflies up close and personal!
Georgeous shots. Lilah's lovely hair is getting so long and she's looking so "grown up" in these photos.

Maybe a butterfly will replace a pony for Christmas?
ReplyDeleteSimply beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHi Jill,
ReplyDeleteI'm a fellow Ottawan and I happened upon your blog from a comment you once left on Postcards from a Mothership (I think) and I am absolutely enthralled with your beautiful photography, love of life and of course, your darling girl. I have a precocious little three year old myself so I know exactly how you feel when you write sometimes.
As someone who seems generally in the know about goings-on in this city, can you recommend any Halloween activities for small children? I'm interested in the Mayor's Halloween party but so far haven't been able to find any info for 2011. Perhaps there won't be one this year.
I have friends visiting from Newfoundland over Halloween and they are interested in doing Halloween-y things while they are here. Any suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated!
Keep up the fantastic work!
Many thanks
Jennifer Andersen
Wow--what an amazing experience!
ReplyDeleteThese photos are unreal! The focus on the butterfly is so beautifully sharp. Are these with your new lens? Whatever the case, they are fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a wonderful yearly tradition. Oh, by the way, your post (here or on Facebook - can't remember) the other day about the Nutcracker served as a reminder to me to book my tix for Claire and me for the Alberta ballet. Thanks for that!
Gorgeous indeed!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Monica,
ReplyDeleteYes, these were taken with my new 85mm.
Iim glad I jogged your memory for The Nutcracker. Actually it was put on by the Alberta Ballet last year at the NAC, but this year it's the Pennsylvania Ballet - I'm sure it will be amazing too! I really enjoy the variety every year and Lilah LOVES it!
Take care.
Jill
Hi Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice that you wrote and introduced yourself. I kinda wish you'd left your email address as well! :) And you're right, I occasionally comment on Dani's blog, she is a wonderful Ottawa writer who keeps me up-todate on the goings on in Ottawa. And I love her photography too!
Anyway, I hope this information helps. I have never been to the Mayor's Halloween Party, but I know our neighbours have done it a few times and loved it. Maybe we'll do it this year ourselves!
Here is a link to all the goings on around Halloween in Ottawa, the Mayor's Party is also included...
