starting a new year of sunday school

second year of sunday school

Today started Lilah's second year of Sunday School. It is incredible how much she has grown (in every way) since last year. She absolutely loves her Sunday School teacher - Janet. In fact, just last night I asked Lilah what her favourite part of Sunday School is: I gave her a few suggestions, like, is it the Bible story? or the singing? or the colouring? But our girl had her own idea how to answer the question, she replied, "I love my Janet girl and seek ye the Lord".

Oh she melts my heart!

annual porch sale

Today was our annual porch sale. It was a glorious day for a porch sale.

We live in an area that is very close to two universities. I understand now why they have this porch sale on this weekend every year... the students are all back! And what a great idea! Great 'stuff' at affordable prices!

Lilah was so excited to get out and check it all out. On our first trip around a couple of streets, we didn't find anything. But on the second round, after we had our lunch, we found several cute little gizmos. Altogether they totalled $1.75, and Missy was absolutely thrilled with her purchases...

A jewellery box - $1.00
Chinese flash cards - 50¢
A little note book (new) - 25¢

She also got a yummy chocolate chip cookie, a glass of iced tea and her face painted by a little girl - she was maybe 7 or 8! In fact, her Mom thought taking on a butterfly could have been disastrous, but it worked out just fine. And when we got home Lilah had to put on her butterfly outfit to seal the deal! She's been flapping her arms and flying around singing, "Happy Butterfly Day" on and off all afternoon!

Also, ever since the porch sale, I've been listening in on her 'playing shop'. Here's some of the stuff I've overheard her saying...

"This is opened at 10 o'clock."
"How much is it? Cents? Dollars?"
"Actually, I need somefing else."
"I'm making 5 cents."
"I'm selling some vegetable soup."
"That's a bit pricey."
"What are you selling today? Tomatoes? Cookies?"

While I'm typing this, she just brought the homemade vegetable soup (with torn up leaves) to Baba and said "It's 10 dollars Baba". He almost fell over and exclaimed "What?! 10 dollars?!". She looked at him and said "That's all!". Funny girl!

nepean sailing club and park

dick bell park (& sailing club)

Today Lilah and I took a little spin over to the Nepean Sailing Club.

It's close by one of the shopping malls we go to now and again, and also very close to Baba's work. We weren't sure what the weather was going to do, since it was pretty cloudy and calling for rain, but thankfully it didn't rain - it was just cloudy and windy.

We took a little walk around the park and then ended up on these two little docks. Lilah really wanted to check out the boats, but I'm pretty sure that's a members only area, so we just got to view them from a distance. Lilah really had fun on the docks, pretended they were her boats. She was hanging onto the little metal handles on the sides and was pretty anxious for me to hang on too... "In case we fall off Mama" - her words! She also enjoyed jumping on them and making them rock - our girl is showing a little more of a fearless attitude!

pink lake, gatineau park

pink lake, gatineau

We live in an amazing city. We're urbanites. But we have the best of both the urban and the suburban worlds. Just a 10 minute drive can take us to the beautiful Gatineau Park. There are trees galore (you should see this place in the autumn, it is breathtaking) and lakes and hiking trails and bike paths. It's spectacular. We really should spend more time here.

Well we did on Saturday, yesterday. We went for a walk around the Mackenzie King Estate, (I already posted about that) and then hiked (or in our case strolled) the 2km trail around Pink Lake. Lilah walked half, if not three quarters, of the way, even without our encouragement - we were pretty proud of her!

just us - at 'the mackenzie king estate'

just us - at 'the mackenzie king estate'

It's Labour Day weekend.

Lilah says it's a special time because Baba took yesterday off work and is also off Monday. She thanked God during her prayers tonight for Baba having this, I quote, "Special time with us". She definitely enjoys our 'just us' family time.

We drove to Gatineau Park, had lunch at the MacKenzie King Estate & walked around Pink Lake today.

I took a ton of photos. No surprises there.

But I'm just posting the ones of us, because we don't get a lot of 'Lilah & us' photos. I even set the self-timer for one. You might also notice that some of these photos are 'noisy'. I made the mistake today of setting my own ISO, a little too high I might add. Yeah. Bad mistake.

All the other photos from our morning at the Mackenzie King Estate are in this set.

And I'm not posting the Pink Lake ones today, because there are just too many and I'll have to go through them and figure out what's worth keeping.

blowing bubbles

bubbles

I can hardly believe it's already September. I know you've heard this (from me) before and it's redundant, but where on earth does the time go? I took these pictures on Tuesday past, the last day of August. The weather this week has been crazy hot and humid, and Lilah has really enjoyed cooling off in her paddling pool. I wasn't going to put these pictures on the blog, but yeah, I changed my mind! I love taking pictures of my sweet girl and I have a hard time not including each and every one on here!

Speaking of taking pictures, Lilah is still loving her little camera and mine too - I've caught her a few times recently with my dSLR! I've also been hearing her come out with expressions like, "Oh no, this picture didn't turn out right" or "This camera is driving me nuts!" I know, I wonder where she heard those expressions?!

Here she is blowing some bubbles. I love her expressions!

"i'm so thirst-night"

Driving home from Bible Study last night:

Lilah: "Mama, I'm so thirst-night."
Me: "Huh?"
Lilah: "I'm thirst-night."
Me: "I don't know what you're saying sweetie. Say it again?"
Lilah: Looks at me, grins and says... "I'm just Thirst-day Mama!"

*grin*

Who knew you could be thirst-day or thirst-night depending on whether it's light or dark outside! She's given the word 'thirsty' a whole new concept now.

Our Lilah girl got her first wasp sting yesterday while out playing in her little paddling pool. First I saw her pick up an ant and squash it with her fingers. A few minutes later she came over to me and said "Ouch, the fly hurt me". I hadn't seen what happened, so it took me a minute or two to get out of her that the 'fly' was yellow and black and it was walking on her plate with the cherries. It seems she thought she could pick the wasp up and squash it too. Within a few minutes the top part of her middle finger started to swell until the skin was really tight. I brought her inside, ran it under cold water, put some ice on it and then when I saw she wasn't having any allergic reactions, gave her some ibuprofen. Later on she woke from her nap and told me "It's all better again", sure enough the swelling had gone down. Poor girly - I don't think she'll be taking on any more wasps.

My beautiful smart funny little sweetheart! I love her so.
