It just dawned on me today. This is going to be the last Fall season Lilah and I get to spend together, without the interruption of school and work.
Next September, at 4 years and 3 months old, Lilah starts Junior Kindergarten. Sigh.
And I plan to go back to work again.
I can't explain the feeling I get at the thought of being separated from her. It is painful. But that is a year away and I'm not going to dwell on it right now.
So. I decided we're going to make the most of Fall. Our last Fall together, with no schedules and no responsibilities - well, you know what I mean! Today was gorgeous, a typical bright sunny Fall day, with a warm refreshing wind. We decided to walk to the canal, feed the ducks, visit the children's bookshop and browse the outdoor vegetable market. Meanwhile, soaking up the incredibly beautiful Fall colours and how fortunate we are to be able to spend this precious time together.
If I only get the opportunity to parent this one child, I feel that I am the most incredibly blessed Mama in the whole world. She is more than I ever dreamed possible.
I'm pretty sure it was our neighbours that brought this Postman Pat cupcake-making-kit back from their holidays in the UK, for Lilah.
Who doesn't like Postman Pat.
I remember him from my childhood and I decided to introduce him and his cat Jess to Lilah today. I found a little movie on YouTube: 'Postman Pat and the Cranky Cows', here is part 1/2 and here is part 2/2. It's a pretty funny little story! Anyway, I let her watch it and then we got to making the cupcakes, meanwhile Lilah sang the theme song...
Postman Pat, Postman Pat,
Postman Pat and his black and white cat,
All the birds are singing, and the day is just beginning.
Pat feels he's a really happy man.
A fun activity for a rainy day!
I fell for this 'leggy witch' t-shirt a while back, it's from The Uptown Baby on Etsy. I caught my girl on camera wearing it this morning.
It is adorable and she is ridiculously cute... in more ways than one!
I so have to post this story.
Today when we were out and about, a small plane flew overhead. Lilah looked up to see it and said to me: "Oh, there's a plane Mama, do you fink that plane is going to Halifax? Or maybe somebody is sick and it's going to the hostipal (hospital). Or maybe it's going to China, maybe they got a phone call and God said 'Your baby girl is ready for you'."
My heart is bursting with love, for my girl.
We did something pretty incredible today. We went to the Butterfly Show in the Biology Department of the Carleton University, here in Ottawa. In fact, it's literally just down the street from where we live.
And we got to experience butterflies.
Real live butterflies.
There was a fake one there too. One that I had picked out a nice red dress for, so she would attract the butterflies, but no red dress would do. She wanted to be a butterfly herself. Might I add, a mighty cute one!
We had such a wonderful time. I sliced up an orange for the butterflies and we brought it along. Lilah thought the slices were for her and helped herself to a few! (We're working on the sharing thing, even with the butterflies. Heh!)
And now that I know the university does this annually, we might just get our butterfly fix every year!
We saw the sign (below) outside a Church when we were walking back to our vehicle from the restaurant today. It says: 'You are of infinite worth to God'. An infinite price was paid by the Lord Jesus, for us to be in Heaven, with Him. And for this gift, that none of us will ever grasp to the fullest, all He wants for us to do, is say "Thank You".
And this is a complete change of subject, but can I just mention how much I adore tights. Mmm, warm snuggly tights on Lilah's sweet little legs. There is nothing more adorable than that! She's 38 inches tall at the moment and just moved on up to a size 8 shoe this season. Slow down baby girl!
I caught these snaps on my little purse camera today.
Fall has certainly arrived around these parts. Today, after playgroup, we stopped into the superstore and bought ourselves a big pumpkin and a flowering Mums plant.
I think we're ready to embrace October.
Lilah has been explaining this to me for a while - "It's called Fall, because the leaves fall down!"
