So I decided to step a little out of my element with my camera today and started shooting in RAW image format. Here's an article on RAW vs JPEG. To be honest, I didn't google the pros and cons until after we came home from our little photo shoot and Lilah was napping; so I had no idea why I was switching to RAW (rather than JPEG), other than the fact that it's a setting on my camera I hadn't yet explored. Note to self: Must join a photography class soon!
I have to tell you, I love the results. (As well as my photoshop software!)
And more importantly, I love love love my beautiful daughter!

I love following your blog and beautiful family. Your pictures are gorgeous! Do you mind me asking what kind of camera you have? I'm asking Santa for one. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Claire's Mommy!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your lovely comment. I bought this camera about a year ago and as you can see I am still learning...and there is much more to learn!
The camera I shoot with is a DSLR, Canon Rebel XSi. I have two lens, 18-55mm (came with the camera) and 55-250mm which I bought just recently. These shots were taken with the 55-250mm and I must admit, this is a fabulous lens if you have plenty of space to work with.
Good luck asking Santa for it! :)

Hi there,
ReplyDeleteI have been enjoying your blog for some time now. You are SO blessed with a beautiful, bright, loving daughter...what a treat to be able to watch her grow and develop. (She too is blessed.)
I am prompted to write because I am an Ottawa resident as well, and today I enjoyed a movie at St. Laurent (Rainbow Theatre). They advertised a program and I immediately thought of you - who is out and about and up to all things fun for a toddler. It's called Tunes for Toddlers http://www.toonsfortoddlers.com/tft_home.html.
Can't wait for Lilah to enjoy her first Halloween!
Hey Jill! :) So glad you followed up with the kind of camera you are using...that was my next question, too!! I've been researching DSLR cameras and I'm stuck between the model you have and the Nikon D80 or D90 model. SO hard to decide!!
ReplyDeleteAS USUAL...Lilah is looking MOST lovely in these shots. She is such a little hunny!! :)
Wow,those photos turned out beautifully! Your Lilah is simply georgeous. I'm off to see if my Canon has that Raw setting.
ReplyDeleteGin =)
Hi Canada to China and back!
ReplyDeleteLilah's outfit is from Old Navy, I bought it a couple of weeks ago and at that stage it was on the sale rack! I hope you can find one! The pink undershirt is also from Old Navy and the leggings are from Children's Place, I bought them a year ago or more.
Annie!
Thanks so much for letting me know about Toons for Toddlers! I'm thrilled to find something new and fun to do with Lilah! We'll be there next time, all being well! I just signed up for the newsletter email. I also really appreciated you comment and it is so true, Lilah is such a joy and blessing in our lives. Thank you so much for your kindness.
Jill
Jill,
ReplyDeleteI love love love your photos...as always! And that little model of yours is just so precious! Those little piggy tails sticking out of her hat has to be the cutest thing EVER!!
I am so jealous of your colorful leaves....everything is still very green around here.
((hugs)),
Kim
Beautiful photos as usual of lovely Lilah - love the colors and all of Lilah's expressions. How do you manage all the photos - displaying, etc., since there are so many good ones? Are you post-processing in LightRoom or PhotoShop? Thanks, Wendy
ReplyDeleteJill,
ReplyDeleteThese are truly special photos! Congrats on shooting in RAW!!! And, the post processing is beautiful!
You go Girl!!!!

Hey Jill,
ReplyDeleteI love them! I want to take a class too - on photography and on Photoshop b/c I cant' use it at all... I have the same camera and haven't tried RAW either. I love the first picture with her holding the maple leaf!

Hi Wendy!
ReplyDeleteI post-process using the software that came with my camera. It's called 'Digital Photo Professional'. You can edit each photo individually or in a batch.
If there are really special photo's that I love, I use my Photoshop CS3 software to edit them.
I should probably be using Photoshop for all post-processing, but I haven't got the hang of it yet! I really need to take a course on my DSLR and Photoshop. :)
Jill
Wow, those photos are amazing. I have the same camera--maybe I'll try RAW. do you really think that made the difference? Also, I didn't even know that the camera came with post processing software...I'll have to check that out too.
ReplyDeleteOf course, it does help to take good photos when you have a willing and adorable subject!

I have a Canon Rebel, too... but my photos don't look anywhere near as good as these!
